Atlanta Checker Cab first to install cameras providing a safer environment for drivers and passengers. Digital cameras to be installed in cabs!

Atlanta, Georgia – December 2004 – After a comprehensive evaluation of all security alternatives, Atlanta Checker Cab Company is pleased to announce it has chosen to install VerifEye digital security cameras in its passenger transportfleet. Drivers of the taxi industry are recognized as the most victimized occupation in North America and the installation of cameras have proven to reduce crime against drivers by as much as 60%. Atlanta Checker Cabis the first taxicab operator in Georgia to voluntarily install this leading edge technology, already mandated by many other major cities.

The infrared digital camera takes images of the entire interior of the taxi, day and night, without any intrusive flash or lights. The images, stored in a secure black box, are only accessible to law enforcement agencies in the event of a crime against a driver or vandalism to the vehicle.

“The decision to install cameras in the fleet was finalized after the technology had proven to work as effectively at night, in complete darkness, as during the day. Atlanta Checker Cab Company chose to install TaxiCam, a system specifically designed by VerifEye Technologies for the operation in the unique environment of a taxi. The infrared digital camera, activated by doors, motion, the meter and a driver controlled comfort switch, capture a series of images throughout the taxi trip. Images are stored in a secured proprietary format that prevents unauthorized access thus protecting the privacy of the riding public.
