Checker Cab was founded in 1947 by Richard F. Hewatt, Sr. with the most modest beginnings, one cab. Over the next 60 years under the leadership of three generations, Richard F. Hewatt, Sr., R.F. Hewatt, Jr. and Richard C. Hewatt, the company has grown to a state of the art, 200 vehicle transportation company, serving more than 3000 passengers per day, throughout Atlanta. Along the way Checker Cab made a point of being first.
- First in Atlanta to utilize two-way communications,
- First to implement computer dispatch,
- First to employ alternative fueled powered cabs in the interest of the enviroment,
- First in providing the newest, best maintained vehicles with a fleet featuring 75 percent Crown Victoria's and 25 percent Vans for top of the line comfort and reliability.
Beyond passenger transport, Checker Cab service also includes rush package delivery, corporate accounts, and the convenience of accepting major credit cards.
